Ride With Me: How Erin Fong Brings Moments of Joy to Everyday

Posted by Bluejay Electric Bicycles on

If you didn’t know already, Erin Fong loves fun—so much so she made it her Instagram handle as a colorful content creator, bringing moments of dopamine and joy to everyday. We’re featuring riders who inspire us with their energy, which Erin has in spades. For example, last summer, she celebrated her partner’s 40th with a “Sporty Forty,” taking their Bluejays to Yosemite for a high-vibe adventure. Here, she shares more about how she keeps the good times rolling.

What’s a typical day for you?

As a freelance artist and content creator there is no “typical” day. This can be challenging in some ways, but I also love the flexibility and novelty each day can bring. Some days I am in the studio working on a letterpress project or pursuing my painting practice. Other days I am checking out a cute cafe or local staycation to highlight on @erinlovesfun.

Who inspires you the most and why?

Color is my biggest inspiration! I am interested in the impact that color has on our daily lives, often in subconscious ways. On a psychological level it can  influence how we feel and I believe that colors can change us on a physiological level as well. Research has shown that bright colors can trigger a release of dopamine in the brain—a crucial neurotransmitter that is often deficient in neurodivergent individuals like myself—and I intentionally infuse vibrant hues into my work to counterbalance this deficit, boost moods, and create moments of joy for all.

What are you most proud of?

The most recent project that I am proud of is painting an 80’ color gradient mural for the Strawberry Village shopping center in Mill Valley. This was my largest mural project yet where I transformed an outdoor hallway/passthrough into a vibrant colorful tunnel, complete with large-scale recreations of sentiments from my Friendship Project letterpress series, which features crowd-sourced advice on friendship. It’s an immersive environment created to uplift mood through the power of color.

What do you love most about your Bluejay?

I love how it makes getting around so easy and really helps me replace the slightly-too-far-errands that I would drive to seem accessible.

What’s your favorite place to ride your Bluejay?

My partner and I took our Bluejay bikes to Yosemite this past summer and it was an AMAZING way to experience the park. We camped in Yosemite Village and rode our bikes everywhere for three days. Seeing Half Dome at sunset on a warm summer night with the wind in my hair is a new core memory.
